In the 1920s and 1930s Evans' work was savagely attacked by Welsh critics - he was known for a while in the Welsh press as 'the best hated man in Wales' - but he can now be seen as perhaps the first genuine exponent of 'Anglo-Welsh literature'. Directed by Steve Fisher
